nyc

photos of ny taken by my dslr & iphone

central park.
me in front of the ny public library.
carousel in bryant park.
the beautiful bryant park hotel.

if you're into architecture porn go to nyc.
PIZZA
see what i mean!!??!?
times squre (left to right my cousin, tash, my sister, jess, my mum and me).
right before this photo was taken i was ambushed by a man in an elmo costume (i guess he assumed i wanted a photo with him because my dad had the camera out and pointed at me—i didn't). anyways i was grossed out because not only did he touch me but i also had to pay a buck for the photo. guess that's next time i'm being nice! i also should've known. anyways, i was probably faking a smile in this picture because i was pissed off by the incident.

if you ever get a chance to go to manhattan go to the top of the rock observation deck. it's better than the empire state building because not only do you get to see a beautiful view of the empire state building you also get a beautiful view of the city—the highest view you'll get in all of nyc (including the e.s. building).
as a tourist it's a really great spot... it's lovely because you feel like you've seen the whole city in the limited amount of time in your visit. (it's so hard to get to everything!)

great one of my dad's thumb.
better.
doors of a church. i believe this was of st. thomas.
museum of modern art sculpture garden. really recommend moma. go to see the room of monet water lilies but stay for the really neat contemporary art. the pieces i love the most were by artists such as henri rousseau (the sleeping gypsy), man ray (the rope dancer accompanies herself with her shadows), henri matisse (gourds), fernand leger (three women), david alfaro siqueiros (collective suicide), robert rauschenberg (bed), james ensor (there are many i liked by him) and jackson pollock (many also). i would have liked to see more female artists represented, though. out of the art that i saw, only frida kahlo got any representation. maybe i'm wrong and maybe i missed some female work, but that's what i noticed (especially from the little list i just made).
this museum is quite large and there's a lot to see! i'd recommend the 5th and 3rd floors, if you're pressed for time. also the sculpture garden. that's a quickie exhibit.
whenever i go to museums i wish i were an art history student instead of a life sciences student! i feel so uneducated in the art department. i only know very little. but what i like about art is that you don't have to know about it to feel something when you look at it. and for me, i always read the little blurbs next to the pieces i find visually appealing or interesting so i can be more informed. this is why i take so goddamn long going through museums.
also from the moma sculpture garden.
moma is an art piece in itself.
see what i mean????

wish i knew the names of the artists of the two pieces above! i thought i wrote them down but i guess i didn't. i'll try to find out soon so the brilliant people can get some recognition.
classic Warhol.
it's weird to me that you're able to take photos here (so long as they're not flash). i suppose its because it's such a tourist attraction and people will take photos regardless... it's just different from the museums in toronto, near where i live. these museums (i also went to the museum of natural history my las time in ny) are quite loud and chaotic in comparison! i personally prefer a quieter atmosphere to observe art. at the same time i don't want to be snooty about it. and i got to take some photos of my favourite pieces so i'm not complaining.
view from moma.
at georgetown cupcake in soho. note the sparkly blender (my sister, an amateur baker, particularly enjoyed it).
they had a vegan cupcake here. it was very good:)
in soho's ritzy streets! the shops there very pricy but it's cobblestone streets and old buildings are a nice sight! i drooled over many shop window displays.
more of soho.
soho and one of it's many cutie cafes. i love that almost every coffee place here has a soy option. i'm vegan and do enjoy black coffee, but i love love love a good soy latte.
i hurt my neck taking pictures like this out of the window of my car.

i just love the colours of soho!
and a no-colour photo of soho which also captures it's beauty.
brooklyn bridge.
at a vegan thai restaurant in brooklyn. my family loved it. none of them are vegans or even vegetarians.
we hardly got to see any of it, but i think brooklyn was my favourite.
running from the rain!
last photo taken—brooklyn arch. it reminds me of the arc de triomphe in paris, (which i've only seen photos of).
